Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I am writing to express my support for the work of the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform. I do so, not because my son helped start this group, but because it is doing what needs to be done to confront the sin of abortion.
CCBR makes abortion unthinkable by making pro-life presentations that focus on providing good reasons why abortion is wrong. This apologetic includes showing the images of aborted infants that clearly illustrate the evil of abortion. CCBR also uses these images in projects that reach university students (GAP) and the general public (RCC).
As Christians, we are faced with the challenge of reaching this world with the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are privileged to let others know about the great love of God. However, that love cannot be understood if we also do not talk about the seriousness of sin. Without sin, there is no need for a Saviour.
One of the sins our country faces today is abortion. It is a great sin against God because it takes the life of people precious to Him. God sets the value of our lives and only He can give and take it.
For too long, Canadians have ignored what is happening to unborn children in Canada. It has been easy to ignore this sin because society has covered it up and used euphemisms like ‘choice’ or ‘reproductive right’. The government even quietly pays for it while the media tell voters it is not an issue worth discussing. Worse still, rather than speaking out against it, churches water down their opposition to abortion.
CCBR seeks to expose this society to the sin of abortion. It is doing what the church is not doing enough of, exposing the public to the truth of this great evil so they can understand the gravity of this sin. And only with the right understanding of sin can we help others understand God’s forgiveness.
The apostle John said God sent His Son as the Light, exposing people to the harshness of their sin. He even said that Jesus was rejected by the world because it did not want their sins exposed.
For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God. (John 3:20-1)
As Christians, we are now called to represent Christ’s light to the world (Matthew 5), even when that light makes others uncomfortable. Unfortunately, many Christians are more concerned about how sinners feel then exposing them to the fact that they are sinners. But when we determine the right course of action solely or mostly on the reactions or feelings of others, that is sin. When we know the truth and are unwilling to share it with others, then that is sin.
As a pastor, I minister to a community of believers and nonbelievers, all of whom need to know the gravity of their sin. Abortion is a sin that we must be willing to speak out on and the church must support those who are willing to speak out on abortion. If we don’t, then who else will?
I would urge you to support the work of CCBR prayerfully and financially.
Sincerely,
Pastor Amor Ruba
Church Minister
